How many podcasts should I do to have a valuable show?
For beginners or a “newbie's” to podcasting, I recommend at least six shows. Three should be audio and three video podcasts. This way, you maximize your impact on your listeners and on the search engines as well. Relevance is their game, and having just a few podcasts isn’t much “relevant data” for them to suggest you as “relevant” from a search query. This allows your show to be a “true” mobile podcast as your audio can go anywhere, anytime, and be consumed “on the go”. Also, your video clips can be used for other forms of media to be delivered to potential clients.
For example, I make really revolutionary business cards; they are miniature CD ROMs that act like business cards. On the outside, they have of all your contact information. But when people put the CD ROMs into their computers, they contain video and clickable sections. Also included on the inside of the CD are links to your website, blog, and podcasts. There will be a section in this document which will go into depth on the CD ROM strategy, but suffice it to say, you can use your video shoots in this type of deliverable media.
When you think about your show message, you need to spread it out over six episodes as a minimum. This is very important as it shows that you are here to stay, not just trying to “trick” the search engines. Your podcast show needs to be entertaining, as I have mentioned before, and not one long advertisement for you. You have to give something to your listeners that they can use or take away for later use. So your six podcasts should be well thought out and contain relevant material to your topic. Without this, you will fail to bring one of the important legs of the Trinity into play.
